He suffered and died for our sins, and rose from the dead on the third day. He ascended to Heaven and is at God the Father's side, ruling as Lord of all (John 14:6, Matthew 28:18). Believers wait with great expectation for his return (1Th 4:13-5:2), at which time Christ will judge the living and the dead. The faithful look forward to being with him forever. The Bible is the only inspired word of God (2Timothy 3:16-17, 2Peter 1:16-21). It is the standard and authority for both life and doctrine, superseding the opinions, emotions, experiences, and traditions of man (Mark 7:6-9, John 12:47-28, 1Timothy 4:16, 2Timothy 4:3-4). Anyone who has heard the gospel, believes, has faith, repents and confesses Jesus as Lord - should be baptized into Christ, receiving the indwelling Holy Spirit, having their sins forgiven, and being added to the body of Christ (Acts 11:26, Acts 2:38, Romans 10:17, 1Corinthians 12:12, Hebrews 11:6, 1Peter 3:21). As disciples of Jesus, we are committed to loving God and each other (Matthew 22:36-41). We're never going to be perfect as people, but under God's incredible grace we are striving to follow Christ's example in our daily lives (1John 2:3-6) -- and help each other do the same -- through prayer, Bible study, and one another relationships in the church (Mark, 3:34-35, John 8:30-32, John 13:34-35). As many of you know, the GFCOC was established in October of 2007 with a team of 26 members meeting together for midweek services while continuing to meet with Montgomery County on Sundays. In February of this year we began to hold two Sunday services each month in Frederick. At those services we've been having approximately 60 in attendance. God has blessed the church with answered prayers, spiritual revival and growth through disciples moving into the area, restorations and baptisms. It has been exciting to see the faith of so many continue to grow. This growth has expressed itself in the disciples devoting themselves more fully to Christ and his mission. Many are using their talents to serve and help those in need and to reach out to the lost with the Gospel of Jesus. The term includes everyone who is a part of the group, but is generally used to refer to the non full time members of the team. The primary function of this group is to provide relevant perspective, input and feedback to the full time staff, ensuring they have congregational perspective on matters pertaining to church leadership issues. These men have years of experience from being disciples and have assumed various leadership roles within the church. These men also give Ruben any personal input they feel necessary and would be the group that would determine whether he would need to step down from his position if that ever became necessary. While "CLG" is not in the Bible, leaders are and must be oversight within the church. "CLG" is simply what we call the leaders whose function it is to help provide church oversight. This is a temporary leadership structure as these men will step aside once God raises up elders within our congregation who will then assume their role. Currently the team consists of these men: Dave Luckett, Marcos Pesquera, Tom Benton, Tom Darling and Derrick Johnson. The kinds of things that are discussed: church structure, ministry programs, midweek series, church events, church budget, acquiring additional staff, long range planning, church discipline and other topics related to church leadership.
